長毛兔繁衍無明顯的時節性，一年四季均可配種繁衍，但因不同時節的溫度、光照、營養情況不同，對母兔的繁衍性能有一定影響，因而，春季是母兔繁衍的時節。

(1)春季。氣候溫和，飼料豐厚，公兔性欲旺盛，母兔配種受胎率高，產仔數多，是長毛兔配種繁衍的*時節。3～5月份母兔發情率高達80％～85％，情期配種受胎率為85％～90％，均勻每窩產仔數達7～8只，所以，普通兔場應力爭春季能配上2胎。

(2)夏季。氣候酷熱，特別是南方各省，高溫多濕，兔食欲減退，體質衰弱，公兔常有夏季不育現象，故配種受胎率低，產仔數少。6～8月份母兔發情率為20％～40％，受胎率為10％～30％，每窩產仔數僅2～5只。即便產仔，因哺乳母兔天熱減食，泌乳量少，仔兔衰弱多病，成活率很低。但如母兔體質強健，又有遮蔭防暑條件，仍可恰當布置配種繁衍。
